Fundado em 1971 na Rua do Comércio, o Coxixo foi um dos primeiros hotéis a atender o segmento de luxo em Paraty. O glamour começava logo pela proprietária: Maria Della Costa, uma das grandes damas do teatro brasileiro. Apaixonada por Paraty, a atriz decidiu investir o que ganhou com a novela "Beto Rockfeller" (TV Tupi) na reforma do antigo imóvel quando percebeu que faltavam boas pousadas na cidade.
Em entrevista à revista "Manchete", em 1975, a então secretária de Turismo e Cultura de Paraty declarou: "Eu pensei em fazer o Festival de Artes de Paraty porque acho que esta cidade se presta muito a isso pela sua paisagem, pureza de arquitetura e poesia. A cidade não tinha acomodações e resolvi construir o hotel. Como o festival foi sendo adiado, comecei a alugar os quartos e virei hoteleira".
Founded in 1971 on Rua do Comércio, Coxixo was one of the first hotels to serve the luxury segment in Paraty. The glamour started right from the owner: Maria Della Costa, one of the great ladies of Brazilian theater. Passionate about Paraty, the actress decided to invest what she earned from the soap "Beto Rockfeller" (TV Tupi) in the renovation of the old property when she realized that the city lacked good inns.
In an interview to "Manchete" magazine, in 1975, the then secretary of Tourism and Culture of Paraty declared: "I thought of organizing the Paraty Arts Festival because I think this city is very suitable for this because of its landscape, purity of architecture and poetry. The city had no accommodations and I decided to build the hotel. As the festival was being postponed, I started renting the rooms and became a hotelier".
